Amazon date upsell
Your delivery driver is available 🥰
Being a delivery driver is grueling work. You are in the car for hours on end and constantly need to jump in and out of the car to drop off packages. I respect this job a lot, though I dread when a delivery person arrives because my dog will hurl his tiny body towards the door while piercing the air with his bark, no matter what I do to try and deter him.
Amazon, as with most commerce experiences, will try to upsell you at checkout. Whether it’s turning a repeat order into a subscription or buying items based on other things in your cart, it’s in their best interest to get you to spend more money.
This got me thinking about less conventional upsells. What if there was a way to indicate that your driver is single? You could then choose to have them stay after delivering your package, or you could delay your shipment and wait for another driver.
At scale, this experience transforms Amazon from a shopping platform to a dating app. I doubt most people would want to date their delivery drivers (they just want their package, I’m sure the drivers are nice), but maybe I’m wrong. Would love to see this get tested in a few markets on April Fool’s Day.
