Apple mood messages
The new operating system could never

It’s difficult to discern emotion via text message. Part of this is due to the limited character and emoji set, but it’s also because everyone has developed a slightly different system of communication with iMessage. Emojis mean different things to different people, as do certain sayings (ie, the deviance in the millennial vs. gen alpha interpretation of preppy).
This got me thinking… what if there was a way to more explicitly determine user sentiment through messages that changed color based on mood? I can imagine “mood messages” being quite beneficial for interpretation in certain contexts, though quantifying the emotion of a user might prove difficult.
Similar to mood rings of the 90s and early 00s, I’m not sure how accurate this feature would be. It would undeniably add a unique angle to how we communicate with each other and make texting potentially more screen-shottable/viral.
