An Automation for When You Die

"How might we make dying less labor intensive for the next of kin?"

Happy Sunday and welcome to the 82 of you who now read this newsletter!

I stumbled across an extremely helpful document on GitHub called “If I’m Gone” that provides detailed instructions on what your partner/family should do if you pass away.

This is actually a super helpful resource. I’m working of my own version of it in Notion. The whole process got me thinking about what it might look like to take the tools we use to automate mundane tasks and use them for when we pass on.

I was on the fence between using the UI for If This, Then That and Zapier. Ultimately I decided to go with Zapier because 1. it’s more ubiquitous among tech people (I think?) and 2. it feels much more cold and utilitarian.

There are far more important things than deleting my search history when I inevitably croak, but this felt like a pretty funny and commonly shared experience. Much more than say, transferring ownership of a retirement account, though that would be more useful.
