BeReal for corporations

Giving managers greater "visibility" into your day

If you’ve been living under a rock for the past few years, you might not be familiar with BeReal. It’s a mobile app that prompts you to take a photo of yourself and what’s in front of you once a day. The goal is to take a photo as close to the specified time as possible. The app blew up during the pandemic, but it’s waned in popularity a bit since the spike during COVID (I still use it from time to time).

I’ve always thought there’s an angle they could take here if they pivoted to enterprise software. Today I’m excited to share the concept for BeReal.Corporate. The concept is simple: pull the BeReal photo concept but make it involuntary. Whatever you’re doing will automatically be shared with your manager in real time.

If you’re a micromanager this is a great idea. If you are a sane human and trust your team to get things done, this is an awful idea. This would cause an absolute revolt in some of the tech communities, though many companies already employ activity tracking software on many devices. It’s already happening, just in a less public way.
