BetterHelp onboarding Rorschach test

Do you see what I see?

I haven’t used BetterHelp, and no, this content is not sponsored by them (unlike every podcast in existence). In theory it seems like a good application but also I know vetting quality therapists is extremely difficult. Based on some experience I’ve heard from friends I think it is affordable but therapist quality is very hit or miss.

They do try to collect as much information from you as they can as part of onboarding to help match you with someone who’s qualified. Essentially they are trying to frontload a lot of the intake work and make it easier to evaluate with a good person (rather than the old way of seeing a therapist and then potentially getting referred out).

Most of the questions are pretty basic, but I started thinking about what would happen if psychologic tests were a part of onboarding or even fully-remote diagnosis determination. To that end… what if a Rorschach test was part of the app? You could quickly breeze through a few images and describe what you see.

My guess is this would create a lot more work to manually review, which is one of many reasons why I doubt BetterHelp would ever implement this. However, I learned through the creation of this concept that Rorschach tests are still a valid psych eval method (given certain conditions are met).
