Chipotle portion score

How much food will they give me?

I spent a portion of my childhood in Colorado. This means I experienced a moment when a burrito from Chipotle cost $5 (yes, you read that right). Unfortunately, that ship has sailed and if I wanted to order a steak burrito tonight it’d cost me $12.20.

The price increases are frustrating, but that’s not the core issue. The problem is centered around portions. I remember as a kid watching employees stuff burritos to the brim at Chipotle. Nowadays, people will go to the counter with their phone taking videos to try and guilt employees into being more generous. Oh how far we have fallen.

This doesn’t impact me much. I don’t eat Chipotle often these days. Tthe skimpy portions have caused a fair amount of blowback in the news lately. This got me thinking… what if there was some sort of “portion score” where you could see how likely you are to get a fair shake before placing an order? This would crush some locations and be a huge win for others.

The question here centers around how this data is provided and how Chipotle responds to it. Odds are they wouldn’t want these metrics to look bad in their app, but who’s to say?
