Delta sick seats

Fly the diseased skies

Yesterday I flew home from Detroit. Unfortunately, I was surrounded by children. I don’t mind that there were 4 or 5 little gremlins around me screaming and crying around me for 5 hours, but I wasn’t enthused that one stood up on their seat, turned to look at me, and then aggressively coughed. Yuck.

This got me thinking about how much we pay for flying only to be met with suboptimal experiences like this. What if there was a way to incentivize sitting next to people who aren’t feeling well? You can imagine a Sick Seat™ feature where you get a discount for tolerating being by someone diseased.

The complexity here comes with verfiying someone is sick. Theoretically, you’d need to check people’s temperatures or quarantine them and do more detailed tests before taking off.

Flying is already not fun, and this makes it worse. That said, saving money feels good…
