DoorDash gift unwanted toppings
"You gonna eat that?"
We all know someone who’s a picky eater. I am actually a recovering picky eater. As a kid, I would do everything I could to avoid onions and tomatoes. I still don’t like raw tomatoes or onions, but if they’re cooked into a dish I typically roll with eat and even enjoy it at times.
That said, a lot of people are not like this. I think Starbucks played an early role in shaping the American expectation about being able to customize any menu item to your exact specifications, and applications have had to make affordances for this in their design. This is also great for people who have allergies or intolerances to certain foods. All in all, a good thing.
The economics are also good. A picky eater doesn’t want grilled onions on their burger? That saves the business a couple of cents on the order as you still pay full price.
This got me thinking though… what if you had to do something with all of the menu items when they were ordered even if the person didn’t want them? One potential option would be an upsell to “gift” the removed toppings to a friend or fellow app user.
This one doesn’t really make sense, but the visual of someone receiving an unexpected DoorDash that’s just grilled onions is hilarious to me.
