DoorDash read their screenplay for free delivery

This could be their big break

I went to the movies yesterday to see the new Mad Max movie. It was pretty good (though not as good as the first). If you’re on the fence about seeing it, you should. They’re not sponsoring me, though that’d be cool if they did.

Anyways, movies are amazing to me. I had a brief moment in college where I thought I wanted to be a production designer (the person responsible for a movie’s look and feel), but then I led a 15-person team for an indie movie only to realize it is a ton of work and the hours and pay are pretty rough. Somehow I wound up making unhinged interfaces instead.

I have immense respect for people in the film industry. It’s such a hard job and audiences are so unforgiving. Making a movie takes a lot of effort, even if the final product is bad.

This got me thinking about my interactions with aspiring filmmakers, actors, and writers in LA. Then I thought about how they must take other jobs to make ends meet while pursuing their dreams. What if, when someone is working as a Dasher, they could offer an incentive for free delivery if you critiqued or engaged with their creative work?

My gut says the likelihood of the right screenplay being offered to the right person within DoorDash’s product is unlikely. Also, if you’re DoorDashing food, it might be because you don’t have time to pick it up, much less read a screenplay for a small discount.

Regardless, the idea of inserting serendipity into products we commonly use is a fun idea.
