DoorDash Review Restaurant Health Score

On Friday night, I was gutted to learn that after 30 years in business, my favorite bagel spot in New York, Absolute Bagels, was closed due to an eye-popping 67 health code violations including, but not limited to, rat infestation, cockroach infestation, improper storage of smoked salmon, rotting rats in glue traps, and so much more.

I went to Absolute in the summer of 2023 and still remember that first, sublime bite of an everything bagel with scallion cream cheese. I was lucky to escape with my life.

The worst part is, they are not planning to reopen because the owner is, and I quote, “old and very tired”.

This shocking news got me thinking: Shouldn’t we be better about showing health grades in the apps we use to order food? What if DoorDash had a feature that warned you when restaurants have bad grades?

This would incentivize restaurants to run a clean shop and help eaters have more peace of mind when placing an order. However, in the case of Absolute, they seem to be beyond saving.
