DoorDash show price by hours worked

Last week, we tried Thai food from DoorDash. It was fine, but knowing how much effort the restaurant puts into presentation when you eat there, seeing the plastic containers of curry was a bit disappointing (albeit delicious). Convenience comes at a cost, both in terms of actual investment at a bit of degradation in quality. It’s also… not cheap.

This got me thinking about the federal minimum wage and how much time you are trading when you order food (or any other number of products). What if, when using DoorDash, prices were mapped to how many hours of work it would take for you to earn that amount of money? Suddenly that butter chicken looks a little less tasty.

This idea is unhinged in its current format, but I actually wish there were some sort of app extension that conceptualized spending like this. Everything we purchase is ultimately an exchange between time & money, and I think this could help many people budget more thoughtfully. This presentation is far too invasive, but the concept has legs.
