Expedia Death Discounts
Spinning negatives into positives
I’m going to be traveling the next few weeks for work. Every time I find myself checking into a new hotel I’m reminded of the scene in The Office where Dwight and Michael turn on a blacklight only to find the room is riddled with mysterious stains. It haunts me.
Sometimes a room, or even a hotel in its entirety will have a really bad vibe. This happened to me the last time I was in San Francisco.
I don’t know all the legalities, but I believe a hotel is not obligated to tell you if someone died in the room. This makes sense for the business but feels awful as a customer.
In a hypothetical situation where hotels are forced to disclose this information, what if they used it to their advantage? An app like Expedia could offer special discounts for people willing to stay in a room where someone recently died. It’d be polarizing, but if you’re on a tight budget… you’ll probably take the discount.
