Exposure alerts for when u smell bad
Recycling a pattern normalized during the pandemic
It's Thursday y'all.
Remember the days when they announced covid "exposure alerts" were going to be a thing on iOS? For those who don't recall, our phones track... everything and if you were in the vicinity of someone who got sick you'd be alerted via push notification.
In retrospect, this was a pretty wild, invasive, and debatably useful feature. You got all of the anxiety of thinking you were exposed without knowing much if anything about the source of exposure.
I got these alerts for a short time, but it quickly tapered off.
The underlying idea of anonymized reporting for health issues is interesting... what if this pattern existed but for when you smell bad? People could report a bad smell, and if enough of them are made near you you'd get an alert.
I know a few people who could benefit from this whether they know it or not.
Thanks to Zara for the initial suggestion that led to this idea.
