F̶i̶n̶d̶ ̶m̶y̶ ̶f̶r̶i̶e̶n̶d̶s̶ Find me friends
Do you got a friend in me?
Randy Newman once said, “You got a friend in me.”
He also said, “Short people got no reason to live.”
I’m not sure how much stock we should put in what Randy says.
This concept is about friends. I saw a Tweet a few days ago, which has since been lost to the ether. It had images of climbing search trends for queries like “how to make friends”. It was bleak.
Society has progressed in so many ways, but for some reason, we are making people more lonely. There are a million factors that likely contribute to this, but I’m not going to yap at you about that, because there are other, smarter people who are better qualified to do this.
Thinking about friends led me to Find My Friends. It’s a great feature if you need to know exactly where someone is. This can feel a bit heavy-handed at times, and I’d bet it’s annoying for teens with overbearing parents. However, I got to wondering… what if rather than finding your friends it helped find you friends?
On one hand, this could be useful. It’s a low-effort way to connect with people in your proximity. People tend to ruin everything though, so I assume strange people would take over the app and it’d become some sort of irl Omegele situation.
Who’s to say though?
