FaceTime speakerphone punishment

Dispatch law enforcement to stop loud talking

Maybe I don’t spend enough time in public, but also maybe there’s something weird going on in Europe. In both London and around Italy, I notice a lot of people talking loudly on speakerphone in public settings.

I understand and empathize if you need to hop on a quick call with someone and it’s not the best time to do so. However, what I do not understand is why people would have a full conversation on speakerphone on the street, in the middle of a crowded coffee shop, or in a store. It’s weird.

In a moment of particular annoyance, I started wondering… what if there was some sort of punishment for loud public talking? Then I remembered disturbing the peace is a thing.

Given the laws already exist, what if we baked those into Apple’s operating system? When you are near someone FaceTiming loudly, you might have an option to report them to local law enforcement. This would definitely result in a multitude of unnecessary 911 calls, but people would also think twice before flapping their gums so loudly in public.
