Fandango eject button

Remove those annoying people from the film

My wife and I go to the movies a fair amount. It’s nice to unplug and fully engage with a film for a couple of hours instead of dealing with constant distractions while trying to watch a movie at home.

That said, you’re lucky these days if there isn’t some distracting factor at the theater. Whether it’s a loud talker, someone who smells bad, or people on their phones, it feels like etiquette has gone down the toilet across the board the last few years. Then again, maybe I’m just old-fashioned.

As I watched LONGLEGS with my wife last night, I thought about this because someone seated nearby smelled… less than ideal. I wondered what it might look like to forcibly eject someone from a theater through the movie theater app, or in this case, through Fandango.

The interesting thing about this concept is not so much the technology, but the real-life interactions it spawns. You can imagine someone trying to surreptitiously remove another person, only to have them catch on. Also, how do you remove the person? If that is the theater employees’ job, one would expect these jobs to pay well.

This would never work due to a range of logistics issues, but it’s an interesting thought exercise.
