Fandango talking fine

Talk too much, pay for it all

I had a night to myself this weekend so I finally went to see the not-so-new Mission: Impossible movie. Yes, these films aren’t the most substantive, but Tom Cruise does his own stunts, how cool is that?

I was surprised that the theater was nearly full, and as the lights dimmed… someone started talking. Loudly. In that moment, I had a choice, let it ruin my experience or tune them out and focus on the dialogue. They proceeded to talk over the entire movie, but I largely tuned it out and enjoyed watching Tom hang off planes and other stuff for 2 and a half hours (why are movies so long nowadays).

During the movie, an idea hit me. What if people who talked too much during movies were punished and had to pay to refund everyone else’s ticket? There are a million problems with this (monitoring, how mad people would get, how much talking is too much, decibel level, etc.) but as a thought exercise, I’m fairly confident this would motivate people to pipe down.

Then again, maybe I should just chill out. I am grateful, however, that this person unknowingly gave me the idea.
