Find My Friends Decoy Location

I’ve talked about this before, but Find My Friends is an insane product feature. It makes no sense to me that you would just have the location of your friends and family. To be fair, some people love Find My Friends. Good for them.

Sometimes, you just need a little privacy. For those who are looking to get away for a bit, I have a potential solution. Introducing:

Find My Friends Decoy Location

FMFDL is simple. You drag to set a location or search for a specific place on Apple Maps. In this case, I’m opting to make it look like I’m at the Olive Garden on Sepulveda.

The relational chaos a feature like this would create cannot be understated. Friendships would be destroyed. Relationships destabilized. It would be a disaster. However, there is probably a world where you would want to use this to get away from a toxic relationships (or even a dangerous one).

It’s fascinating to me when features like this launch how something seemingly neutral can be used for both great and awful reasons.
