Find My Friends item giveaway

For misplaced AirTagged items

I read an article today about a woman who put an AirTag in her recycling in Texas to see how often the city was recycling waste. Turns out… they weren’t recycling at all. This isn’t surprising to me, maybe it should be. It does call out the power of AirTags to out people and institutions.

I have an AirTag, but I don’t know what to use it for. It stays in my briefcase for now, which is probably a good place, as it is super important to me.

This got me thinking about times that have been misplaced. It’s not uncommon to get rid of items after they’ve been lost for a certain amount of time. What would happen if Apple adopted a similar model? You could imagine a feature in Find My Friends where misplaced or left behind items with an AirTag get made available to the general public. These “mystery items” would become available to the first person who picks them up.

This would functionally defeat the purpose of AirTags. However, it’d make for a fun scavenger hunt for others.
