Find My Friends location check view count

See who's really keeping tabs on you

The normalization of Find My Friends is, in my opinion, one of the strangest social phenomena of our time. If you told someone even a decade ago there would be an app where friends could see your location at any time I think they would be weirded out. However, for some reason it seems that this behavior is not only now socially acceptable, it’s actually pretty normal.

What’s not normal however is to continuously check where your friends are. Yes, using it to make sure they’re safe or to see if they’re actually on their way like they say they are is fine, but you don’t want to stalk someone. Yet, the way the app is built today you really can’t tell.

So what if Find My Friends added a feature to see how many times someone has checked your location? This would be both clarifying and at times alarming. I can see a world where someone who is a bit obsessive checks your behavior constantly. If this is the case, it might be good to know and have a way to stop sharing with them if Apple really cares about our privacy.

Thanks for carving our some time in your morning to read my lil newsletter.
