Gmail bankruptcy declaration

I, DECLARE, BANKRUPTCY!!!!

Sometimes adulthood feels like it’s just responding to emails until you die. Sure, this is a pretty morbid take, but no matter what I do it is SO hard to zero out my inboxes these days.

Other people in my life have chosen to accept the chaos that comes with never deleting emails. I have friends with thousands, even tens of thousands of unread emails in their inboxes. Just the thought of this stresses me out.

When you don’t know what to do with your finances (typically because of insane debt), there is always an option to declare bankruptcy. Thankfully, I don’t fully understand what bankruptcy entails, as I’ve never had to declare it. I’m reminded of the scene in the Office where Michael yells “I declare bankruptcy”. Unfortunately, it’s a bit more complex than that.

What if there was a similar concept for emails? Essentially, your attention is in debt to all of the unread messages you’ve been neglecting to delete or read. A simple button to “declare bankruptcy” and start over again from zero could be an interesting solution. Now, I don’t know if this is the best solution, but for people who can’t be saved, it is a fun way to purge your inbox.
