Gmail generational translate

I am 30. In some ways, it feels like life is just getting started. Then I look at TikTok and feel very old. It’s amazing to me how much the internet has morphed the cultural vernacular in ways I’m already having a difficult time understanding. By the time I ask my nephew if a slang is still being used, it seems the youths have already moved on to a different trend.

These themes are exacerbated in the workplace, where some index on extremely formal language while others are much more casual. This got me thinking… what if there was an LLM layer that sat between comms and automatically translated text to match the vernacular of the recipient’s generation?

At first glance, this doesn’t seem like a horrible idea. However, LLMs tend to hallucinate, so it would make organizational information very leaky and unreliable. I can see a world where there’s some utility here, but the guardrails would need to be rock solid for this to work well. Maybe one day.
