Gmail multiple live typing indicators
Make the overwhelming... even more overwhelming
According to Statista, the average American spends 172 minutes per day checking personal emails and only 149 minutes checking their work email.
Yes, you read that right.
As someone who tries to spend as little time in my email inbox as possible, I find these numbers to be absolutely astounding. What are people talking about? I guess I use Slack as an alternative, but still, I’m not spending 6 hours per day clicking back and forth between messages.
Responding to everything in my different inboxes is a lot to manage. I get anywhere from 10 to 40 DMs across different platforms per day. At this point, I can’t respond to it all.
An added stressor on platforms like iMessage, Slack, and Instagram DM is the live typing feature. This gets me thinking… What if we pulled the idea of a live typing indicator directly into an email?
This is essentially Slack. The fascinating thing about this is how one small tweak to the design can fundamentally change our perception and interactions with a product. Details matter.
