Gmail restraining order
For salepeople who don't know when to stop
For better or for worse, Gmail is the app I’ve used more than any other for the past decade. I know there are Apple Mail, Hey, and Superhuman loyalists who are probably screaming at their monitor or phone screen right now, but given how many email addresses I manage I’ve opted to suffer through it with Gmail for the foreseeable future.
Somehow, even with spam filters, people still find a way to cold email me about things like growing my social media following, improving my “sales” process, or getting help with web design services (which I find particularly funny since I design websites). It’s annoying and even if I don’t respond they usually follow up 3 to 4 times before giving up, or they’ll just email me next quarter.
I think it’s possible to block email addresses, but what if you could be a bit more extreme? You could, for example, file a restraining order against the person emailing you.
This feature would be a massive burden on the American legal system. It would also make people think twice before sending a spam email. It’s wild to me that people used to make money by building and selling email lists to the highest buyers. I’m not sure what better controls should be in place to protect people’s emails, but right now the spam is a bit much to handle.
