Google Ads on Google Meet
How might we make this product completely unusable?
Happy Thursday all.
On a serious note, Google Meet is an amazing tool. Considering how many people use the product every day I'm impressed with the improvements that have been made in the last couple years, kudos to the team.
That said... they offer the product free as long as you have fewer than 100 people on a meeting (which is awesome), but what if they needed to quickly monetize the smaller companies using the product?
Introducing: Google Ads on Google Meet
You could automatically see ads when people turn off their camera, or even get a trailer ad when you start up the product. There might even be an opportunity to send a "meeting recap" email that has ad placements too. The possibilities are endless.
In the short term, a PM might see this and think, "wow what a great way to monetize" but ultimately the disruption to the product experience and the erosion of trust an experience like this would cause drastically outweighs and immediate benefit.
That said, I'm kinda hungry from looking at that Taco Bell ad now... might go get a breakfast crunchwrap 🌮
