Google Advent Calendar

Keeping the holiday spirit alive at work

Since I work remotely for a large company, I have not attended any holiday parties this year. Apart from some festive Google Meet backgrounds, it’s felt like business as usual. However, the WeWork I’m at and the surrounding area in Orange County is fully decked out for Christmas, so I’ve gotten more than my fair share of Christmas music, decor, and seasonal foods.

Some people like to do advent calendars this time of year. Did you know they make advent calendars for dogs? I didn’t until this year. We’ve been giving my dog a small toy which he immediately eviscerates every day and it’s been fun, cute, and heartwarming.

But why stop at dogs? What if corporations could gift their employees with an advent calendar as a fun way to communicate required meetings and work tasks? Introducing: Google Advent Calendar.

There’s probably a version of this that is less soul-sucking, but something about corporate communications that completely misses the mark yet tries to embrace the holiday spirit is particularly bleak yet funny to me. Yes, I’d be annoyed if I got this invite, but I’d appreciate the product, design, and engineering work required to build something like this.
