Google Flights baby-free option
Bye bye, baby
I flew from Southern California to Detroit yesterday. I’ve never been to Detroit. It’s not a bad city from what I’ve seen so far, but it’s also nothing to write home about (readers, feel free to prove me wrong or point me in the direction of interesting things). Today’s concept is born from the 4-and-a-half-hour flight I spent with a screaming baby. Somehow, I was so tired that I slept through 2 hours, and thankfully I had Airpods to make the final leg of the flight more bearable.
It’s impressive to me how long a baby can scream. I would get tired after a few minutes, but this kid had an impressive lung capacity (that or they were very upset, or some combo of the two). Regardless, as I played Sudoku and attempted to drown screams in a podcast, I wondered how we might solve this problem. Then the idea came to me: baby-free flights.
On the one hand, this would be frustrating for people with kids who want to take a flight at a certain time. However, if airlines charged a premium for this service, I can guarantee people would pay it. Sure, they likely wouldn’t pay $10,000, but a few fees are a small price for peace and quiet, especially on a long flight.
