Google Map option to avoid traffic laws

For when you really don't want to be late

Driving in Los Angeles and Orange County is tough. You spend a lot of time in your car, especially if you regularly go back and forth between LA and OC. I’ve been doing more of that this year and it’s not fun. I’m still crossing my fingers for a self-driving feature to launch in cars within my lifetime, though I worry I’ll be old by the time this is normalized.

In the meantime, I rely on Google or Apple Maps to tell me how bad traffic is. My house to Arts District in LA is typically 45 minutes without traffic and up to an hour and a half with traffic. I try to leave early or late, but it’s tough.

Part of the challenge is traffic jams, limitations on HOV lanes, stop signs, and more. Sometimes I wish I could pop over to the HOV lane and or onto the shoulder and speed by people, but I’m generally a docile driver who quite literally stays in their lane.

This all got me thinking… what if there was an option on Google Maps where you could save time by ignoring all traffic laws and speed limits?

The interesting thing about this idea is that while it would enable some crazy driving, many people would realize you don’t save that much time by driving a little bit faster, so maybe they’d calm down. However, people are people, and I doubt a map feature would change that. Law enforcement wouldn’t like this feature either.
