Google Maps extremely granular faster options available
Gotta save that 14 seconds
Google Maps is a necessary evil. The UX feels extremely cumbersome at times, but it’s a valuable tool I use more than most other apps on my phone.
When you’re driving, you’ll inevitably run into times when traffic gets bad. Or if you live in LA, this is an everyday occurrence as you drive up the 405. Google Maps does this fun thing where it recommends alternative routes that are just… weird. They involve driving through unfamiliar neighborhoods and navigating side streets.
Often you only end up saving a few seconds, if you save any time at all.
This got me thinking, what if there was an option to constantly get notifications about a faster route by switching lanes? You can imagine getting prompted to switch lanes all the time while driving down a long congested highway.
My gut says this would increase complexity rather than simplifying it, but who knows?
