Google Maps step-by-step instructions

While on vacation (and sometimes when I’m home in Orange County/LA, I find myself heavily reliant on Google or Apple Maps for navigation instructions. I’ve lived in Southern California long enough that I’m relatively comfortable with navigating the cities, but I regularly use maps to keep up with traffic or figure out how to get to new places.

During my recent vacation, I found myself regularly using walking routes, as well as their public transit instructions (which can be super confusing for the uninitiated).

This all got me thinking… what if there was a way to get super granular with instructions when navigating a mapping application? I can imagine a Google Maps experience where you get literal step by step instructions to help you navigate from point A to point B.

This is likely overkill in 99% of situations, however it’s also quite funny and it’d be interesting to see routes places broken down by step count. There’s no good reason for this to get built but it’d be a fun feature for a standalone app.
