Google Maps tourist trap disclosure
Transparency when we need it most
I wasn’t aware of the concept of tourist traps until pretty recently. Part of this is because I guess I simply enjoy being a tourist I guess? Like, I would love to visit the biggest ball of twine in Minnesota even though it probably isn’t the most remarkable thing out there.
I digress. During my recent vacation, I did a lot of things. Some of them were touristy, others not so much. The trip was great and I’d go back in a heartbeat, but alas instead I’m back home making satirical interfaces again.
Back to tourist traps… I started thinking. What if there was a way for users on Google Maps to report locations as tourist traps? Sure, you could write a review but a dedicated disclosure feels far more urgent and necessary for the real traps out there.
This would kill a lot of tourist spots but also save some people time and money. Not sure if this one is unhinged or useful.
