Google Maps weather-based upsells

Living in Southern California is weird (for a lot of reasons). It will be cool/temperate for months, and then suddenly, out of nowhere, it will get crazy hot. This is annoying, though less annoying than when I didn’t have AC and lived in LA. I look back on those summers very not fondly.

As I was driving home from a particularly warm Father’s Day celebration yesterday, I wondered to myself, “What if Google integrated some sort of commerce layer and allowed you to purchase items that were surfaced based on temperature?” My brain is strange, I know.

I can imagine that Google could actually get quite granular with their recommendations, but it’s funny to imagine industrial-strength fans being recommended alongside popsicles.

If Google were down bad, they could benefit from something like this, but I don’t think it’s feasible in the short term.
