Google Meet bathroom break

When you gotta go, you gotta go

Since leaving Big Tech, I find myself in fewer meetings (which I love). In the worst season, I would be on calls 4 to 5 hours per day. It was exhausting. Thankfully, those days are behind me, though I still find myself stuck in a WeWork meeting pod for multiple hours at a time some days.

As someone who is chronically dehydrated, I don’t typically have an issue with needing to use the facilities while on a call. When you combine a more open schedule with working remotely, you don’t often need to yield to nature’s call while attending stand-up or an all-hands meeting.

Many of my readers and former coworkers, however, are not so lucky.

This got me thinking about Google Meet. What might it look like for them to provide an in-app experience where one could easily pause a meeting so they could use the restroom? One the one hand, if you really need to take care of something off-camera, you can tell everyone. That said, pausing everyone’s video without warning is funnier to me.

I’m not sure if this is possible to build via a Chrome extension, but it’d be a fun experiment to conduct for anyone with an abundance of free time.
