Google Meet hostage feature

"We're done when I say we're done"

Most of my readers are no strangers to pointless meetings. However, as remote work has matured, I’ve noticed that people's ability to define and focus on a specific agenda when hopping on a call has improved. People are quite resilient and can adapt to new environments.

Yet, there are still meetings that go awry. You start going on a tangent and before you know it a meeting is completely derailed. This happens to the best of us and it is frustrating.

But what if there was a solution? Instead of allowing meetings to drag on without resolution, products like Google Meet could hold users “hostage” until the specified agenda or action items for a meeting are defined.

At first glance, this is a terrible idea. However, I could see some degree of utility here if this was properly implemented. An incentive structure to get people to align on objectives or action items quickly would be a big value add for many companies, though some meetings might drag on for a long, long time.
