Google Meet mention notifications
Say it to my face
When you work at a big company, there are always politics. The amount of politics varies significantly depending on where you find yourself working, but it’s human nature for people to empire-build and form lil’ teams within megacorps. I’ve seen this firsthand at big companies and even some smaller ones. Such is life I guess.
This got me thinking about Google Meet and instances where someone is talked about, even if they aren’t on a call. What if they received a notification when they were mentioned?
There’s some utility here. You can imagine automatically delegating tasks and action items to someone who might be unable to join a chat for any number of reasons. The more insidious permutation of this is talking about someone behind their back. Notifying them would stir up a lot of drama.
Ultimately, the complexity paired with lack of a clear value likely inhibits this exact iteration from seeing the light of day.
