Google Meet option to apply face filters to peers

Make work more "fun"

Google Meet has slowly been rolling out filters into their product. I turned myself into a dinosaur a couple of days ago. Pretty cool stuff.

Playing with this feature got me thinking about the constant push and pull of single vs. multiplayer features within Google Meet. You can control your own camera and any filters applied to it, but you can’t control anyone what anyone else’s view looks like. I’ve historically looked at the option to turn on everyone’s camera at once, which was met with… strong responses.

After playing with the filters a bit more I started thinking, “What if you could apply filters to someone else?” Even better, “What if those filters couldn’t be removed until the end of a meeting?”

The chaos that would ensue with a feature like this would be enormous, but it’d also be hilarious to watch. If Google woke up on April 1st, 2024 feeling particularly bold, this would be an incredible feature to launch. However, I doubt they’d ever do this.

Have a friend who would get fired for using this too much?
