Google Meet share someone else's screen

Keeping people on their toes

I’m now back in California after a week of vacation on the East Coast. Even though it rained a lot during the week, I got to catch up on sleep. Many naps were taken, it was glorious.

Unfortunately, all good things come to an end. This means I’m back to emailing, Slacking, and joining Google Meets with my team plus our clients. To date, we’ve used a mix of Zoom and Google Meet, though I strongly prefer Google after using it heavily during my time in the big corporate world.

I’ve spoken at great lengths about meeting culture, the decay of corporate etiquette in a post-pandemic world, and how work is getting less formal. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t mind an informal work culture. However, there is a line where it starts to feel too casual.

Sometimes when I’m on a call it seems like other people aren’t paying attention or are preoccupied with something else. In these moments, I wish I could present their screen without asking. This is one of those features where it would only need to be used once or twice before massively shifting user behavior. Simply knowing this feature exists would help people fall in line.

I don’t see this getting launched because it would make a lot of people upset. If it did exist, meeting could be more productive…
