Google Meet Temporary Mute Button

Put your coworkers in a "time out"

Have you ever been in a meeting and someone just won’t stop talking? I actually haven’t been in many conversations like this, but every once and a while someone should really just stop rattling on. It’s painful to watch, and you wish there was a way to help someone help themselves.

Initially with this idea, I toyed with temporarily degrading someone else’s internet connection, but this technically isn’t feasible. I challenged myself to operate within the current constraints of the product. This led me to a new idea: a temporary mute button.

What if instead of just muting someone, they were put in a five minute “time out” where they couldn’t speak? This would create a really interesting dynamic for teams that have members who are particularly combative. It’s a bit of a pipe dream, but there are times where this could be super useful.
