Google Meet toot button

Surreptitious gas

Flatulence is a normal, healthy part of our daily lives. At the same time, it is a comedic trope that always hits with 8-year-olds. Yet, for some reason, adults like to act like it doesn’t exist.

It does. At times, it can be quite loud.

This can be particularly awkward in a professional setting.

I’ve gotten quite good at toggling cmd + D on and off to hide coughs or my dog barking, but it’s annoying because the little mute icon flashes on and off on my video preview. I know no one else is thinking about it as much as I am, but here we are.

What if Google Meets made it easier to accommodate this in a subtle way? There could be a lil “toot” button that would temporarily mute your mic and then turn it back on so no one was the wiser.

Many questions come to mind. How long should the mute last? Will I know when I’m unmuted? Can’t this be used for more things than just gas? I don’t have answers here, I’m just the idea guy.
