Google Meeting option to request a refund

For wasted time

I generally try to make the most of my time. This means shaving off a few minutes of a meeting when I can, skipping meetings entirely, or communicating asynchronously when possible. It’s these little moments that can add up into a substantial amount of time when compounded.

Others unfortunately lack this self-awareness or high value of time. These individuals will run long meetings, schedule unnecessary ones, and overall waste people’s time. It’s quite frustrating.

But what if there was a way to hold these people accountable for their actions? One could imagine a system baked into the Google Meet post-meeting screen where you can “request a refund” and have the culprit work in your stead to make up for the time they squandered. If you have 4 or 5 people in a meeting this punishment can become substantial quite quickly.

This would be difficult to track, and even if Google doesn’t implement this (I doubt they will), the idea of encouraging employees to value the time of their peers is a good thing.
