It will be what it will be
If you are American (or are interested in politics), you were likely glued to the TV or your phone last night. Maybe you still are, I don’t know. I’m speaking of course about the 2024 presidential election. Every 4 years, we have the most important election of our lives.
Politics are weird and very difficult to make satirical content for. Having any sort of opinion will make someone, somewhere mad. However, I wanted to make something to acknowledge the election because 1) it’s a historic event and 2) I felt there had to be some common ground across the political aisles.
Regardless of your politics, you’re likely eager to get election results. As a kid, I remember having the TV on and seeing results come up in real-time. With the agency, Stompers, and trying to enjoy a Tuesday after a long day of work, I thought about how many times I refreshed the same browser on my phone and computer.
This got me thinking… what if there was a feature that limited how often you could refresh a tab? This would likely be a net-positive for people’s mental and emotional wellbeing, but as someone who wants to see up-to-date information on the election, it would be infuriating.
For companies, this would likely result in some savings in terms of server costs, but the experience would be awful. I don’t see this ever getting shipped unless they want to make a lot of people very mad, or if they wanted to paywall faster refreshing.
