iMessage contacts transparency

What's your name again?

I’ve made peace with the fact that I’m terrible at names. Maybe it’s because I meet so many people between client calls and acting as an embedded designer on different teams, but it’s honestly sad how often I completely forget the name of someone I’ve met… more than once.

However, I’m not alone in this. According to my research (a Google search), forgetting names is not uncommon. Good to know I’m not alone.

My inability to remember names got me thinking about where we store names: in the contacts section of our phones. What if you could see how other people have named you on their phones? My guess is we’d all be surprised at how often people don’t save numbers at all, much less accurately spell our names.

This type of visibility is less helpful and more toxic. I can’t imagine a world where much, if anything good comes from this feature, though you might get a good laugh out of some people’s naming conventions.
