iMessage Delete Receipts

iMessage has one of the most diabolical features: Read receipts. If the feature is enabled, it shows you if and exactly when someone reads an incoming text. On the one hand, this can be helpful because it shows you that yes, your messages are being received. However, if the person doesn’t reply to your texts it can be quite frustrating.

I think I’ve had read receipts enabled for years. As my life has gotten progressively busier, I have gotten worse about texting people back promptly. Oh well, such is life.

In recent weeks texting and emailing different people as we rush to the holidays, I started to wonder what it might look like if iMessage had even more granular insights into if people see your texts. What if there was a way to see when someone deleted a message thread?

This could be hurtful in some instances, but it would also clarify when a conversation is truly “over”. To be clear, I’m not advocating for this feature, as it’d be brutal to text someone and see them delete the thread, but I could see it happening.
