iMessage duplicate message indicator
You're not so special
As a kid, I remember wanting to be a cool kid (spoiler alert: I wasn’t).
After getting through high school and college, I came to grips with the fact that I’d never be cool. Instead, I settled for being myself, which is much better.
In my youth and naiveté, I thought being cool meant popularity, which in turn meant getting a lot of texts and calls from friends. As an adult, I came to the horrifying realization that this actually just means you are responsible for more things. Someone’s always emailing, texting, or calling you (usually because they need something).
Politicians are a particularly needy bunch come election season. Even though I would never give them my phone number, they still find a way to get ahold of me. They send these wonderfully aggressive texts about how evil their opponent is. This got me thinking… what if you could see how many people they sent a message to?
This would make you realize that A) most political messages are spam and should be ignored and B) that a lot of people get texted by politicians.
Initially, I was going to mock this up in that context, but I do my best to steer clear of politics in my work so I opted for a more harmless version wherein a desperate guy named Seth is trying to get someone to respond to his advances. Easy there Seth.
