iMessage Group Chat 3 Strikes You're Out

Baseball rules for texting

Group chats are interesting. I remember in high school always wanting to be a part of one, and now there are so many that I can’t keep up. It’s overwhelming at time, and the inbox-zero person deep inside me has a hard time.

I generally think of myself as the “funny guy” (shocking, I know) and I often drop a sassy or humorous reply in a group chat. I have enough self-confidence that I’m not too concerned about getting any reaction, but obviously it’s ideal to avoid getting the dreaded “thumbs down” reaction.

This got me thinking… what would happen if there was a 3-strike policy for group chats? If you get 3 negative reactions, you get booted out. This would inevitably cause people to be much more conscientious about how they respond to messages, maybe to an extreme. However, I think some sort of accountability system could be interesting to employ, especially for a forum where you’re trying to uphold some sort of conversational standard.
