iMessage see typing duration

Most of the people reading this have experienced waiting for someone to type a reply (if not in iMessage, then in some other form). It is the worst feeling. Okay, it’s not the worst feeling but it is uncomfortable to see the bubble start and stop typing over and over.

This got me thinking about potential additional components of information that could be shared for greater visibility. What if there was a timestamp that showed how long someone has been typing their response?

This feels like a double-edged sword. For some situations, this would only make the angst worst, while others would be asking what constitutes typing (if they put down their phone but the keyboard is active, does that time count?). Realistically Apple will never build this because it likely creates more questions than it answer.
