iMessage see what they sent

Forced visibility... for a price

I remember when iMessage was a simple platform for sending and receiving texts. As with everything, it tends towards chaos and complexity.

Groups, reactions, editing, threaded messages, and un-sending messages all contribute to a more complicated product offering. This isn’t inherently bad, but it feels like a departure from Apple’s value proposition of simplicity and intuitive software.

I woke up yesterday to a text from someone important that they had unsent. Talk about anxiety-inducing. They explained the justification for it later, but still, it’s amazing to me how much stress a few strategically placed lines of text can cause within a product.

This got me thinking about iMessage and how they might monetize their product. What if there was a way to pay to see messages that someone else tried to unsend?

The interesting thing about this feature is that it would work once. After that, it defeats the purpose of being able to send a message at all. iMessage would never build this, but if it did they’d eventually need to just roll back unsending messages altogether.
