Instagram close friends quiz

Instagram's close friends is a strange feature. I never created a close friends list, because I don’t follow anyone on my main account. Anyone I follow on my smaller account I’d automatically consider a friend.

This weekend, I got to reconnect with some old friends at a wedding I was in, it was fun. This got me thinking about friends and how few people I am thoughtful about staying in touch with. It also made me think about work friends and how we know each other in and out professionally but know very little about each other’s personal lives.

This got me thinking, what if there was a way to “graduate” into someone’s circle of close friends by taking a quiz? You can imagine a story that’s blocked by a multiple-choice question. It gets even more interesting if there’s some punitive action if you get the question wrong.

It’s not the most unhinged idea, more of a social experiment to see how people think about expanding or guarding their cohort of close friends. Playing the tape forward, this might also open the door to family or weird friends who know too much about you who you might want to omit from this circle. Instagram’s added so many features lately that they might just ship this.
