Instagram but it closes like a store

I know who I want to take me home

I regularly joke that I’m “terminally online”. It’s funny to some extent, but I do need to spend more time touching grass. I’m on my computer a lot. Part of this is the nature of my work, and part of it is because I enjoy the internet. There are fun people (and some not-so-fun people) and interesting information. The same is true of real life though.

This, plus ironically, suggestions from social media got me thinking about how the internet is always available, while physical stores are constrained by people + supply and demand. This means stores close every day, but the internet is always waiting. What if an artificial constraint was placed on social apps and they closed every night?

This would never get built because it kills engagement numbers for no good reason. However, I could see this as good for people’s mental health. However, we’d never be able to align on a shared bedtime, so even if we wanted to build this, I can see it getting stuck in product arguing if people should log out at 10, 12, or 2.
