Instagram DM limit
A little peace and quiet?
I rarely use Instagram for social purposes these days. It’s become my go-to recipe app, which is weird, but it’s 2024 and a lot of things are weird. The one person I regularly DM still is my wife. I’ve had friends who would bombard me with DMs in the past, but after enough one-sided conversations, they’ve largely given up.
This got me thinking about the current experience of DMs on Instagram. It’s wild when you think about it that you can just send anyone, anything, at any time unless they have some basic privacy restrictions set up.
What would it look like if people could set limits? You can imagine an experience where users can pause or set a maximum amount of Reels/messages that someone can send in a day.
This is one of those ideas that feels unhinged to the sender but like a welcome break to the person specifying the limits. As someone who received 50+ DMs a day, an ability to throttle inbound messages would be amazing.
